Simulation scenarios
You have the conn. Order rudder and revolutions, watch the CPA and TCPA solution on each target, and resolve the situation early and boldly. Every run is scored and debriefed.
Crossing — Give-way
Open sea, good visibility. A container vessel is fine on your starboard bow on a steady bearing. You are the give-way vessel under Rule 15.
Head-on Meeting
A bulk carrier is right ahead on a reciprocal course. Rule 14 applies: both vessels alter to starboard and pass port to port.
Overtaking in Open Water
A slow tanker is fine on your port bow, same general heading. You are overtaking under Rule 13 and must keep out of her way until finally past and clear.
Multi-ship Traffic
Three vessels in close proximity: one crossing from starboard, one head-on, one overtaking you from astern. Sea room is limited by the traffic itself — plan a single, bold manoeuvre.
Traffic Separation Scheme
You are in the north-bound lane of a TSS. A ferry is crossing the scheme at right angles from starboard and a rogue vessel is proceeding against the flow. Keep to your lane and clear of the separation zone.
Man Overboard — Williamson Turn
Select approach speed and wind drift, then execute the four-step Williamson turn against strict timing and heading tolerances.
